July round winner

NT-MDT Co. is happy to present the winner of the July round of the probe images contest ProIMAGE.

Please, welcome Miss Gizem Durak, the master-student of Magnetic Materials Research Group at Ankara University, Turkey. The research objects of Mrs. Durak are organic-magnetic nanoparticles and thin films.

Here are her the words of Gizem Durak, describing the research of her group:

“We concentrate on the materials with interesting magnetic properties. Such materials are used as the magnetic parts of transformers, flexible disk recording media (RAM, hard-disk, etc.), magnetic sensors (MTJ) in many modern high-end technology applications. Our special scientific interest is environmentally friendly technology called magnetic refrigeration. We develop and produce the magnetocaloric materials used in this technology. For the last two years, our research group has also been interested in magnetic and organic Langmuir Blodgett Thin Films which are used for producing catalysts, magnet and sensitive sensor elements”.

The results of such researches were presented at the 5th Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Conference (NanoTR5), the most comprehensive meeting organized annually in Turkey (Anadolu University).

The champion image of Langmuir Blodgett Thin Films studied with SPM was obtained by GOLDEN series probe NSG11/Pt. The image (scan #29) has its own creative name, given by Miss Durak, The Dried Land. Scan size is 5x5 um.

NT-MDT experts approved this image of Mrs. Durak as the July winner.
NT-MDT Co. congratulates Mrs. Gizem Durak and wishes her success in the further scientific research and her studies!

The second place was given to the image of Dr. Li Ang (National University of Singapore). The image “Swimming E.coli” (scan #62). Without fixation, E.coli cells can be directly imaged under dry condition. Well preserved flagella structures facing the same direction indicating the cell is swimming to the opposite direction (scan size 10x10 um).

According to the recommendation of NT-MDT expert group, Dr. Li Ang has been awarded a special prize – a set of polisilicon AFM probes ETALON series.
