September round laureates

NT-MDT Co. is happy to present the best images of the September round of the ProIMAGE contest. This month NT-MDT experts decided to divide the honour of the victory between two laureates. So please meet them: Dr. Boris Tikhonov, Tver State Technical University, and Dr. Boris Gribkov, Institute for Physics of Microstructures RAS, Russia.

According to the open online voting the image of calcium carbonate (#103) was rated as the first.

Scan #103 “Moon landscape” is voting leader.

The image of calcium carbonate surface after processing by EDTA solution was obtained by GOLDEN series probe CSG10.

Scan size is 5 x 5 µm.

Scan #103

The author of this scan Dr. Boris Tikhonov, PhD in Chemistry, Tver State Technical University, explains the image history and the sphere of his scientific activity:

“This image was obtained during study of interaction process of calcium carbonate with EDTA solution. That was made in the frame of periodic system II-a subgroup metals carbonate research of dissolution processes at the presence of complexing agent. This research investigates up-to-date scientific spheres of physical and inorganic chemistry and is aimed at developing of perspective methods of carbonaceous sediments removal from heating surfaces.

But another sphere of my interest also includes teaching of pupils and student. I consider nanotechnology basis to be very important field of knowledge and that’s why I run the laboratory courses and lessons by means of  NANOEDUCATOR in my institute. In the picture you can see one of such lessons.”

By special decision of NT-MDT experts the scan of Vdovichev`s snowflake (#92) by Dr. Boris Gribkov, was also approved as the image deserving the victory.

Scan #92 named Vdovichev`s snowflake – NT-MDT experts’ choice.

The image of erosion process on CoCu thin film surface was obtained by NSG01. Scan size: 5,8 x 5,8 µm.

Scan #92

Dr. Boris Gribkov, Research fellow, Institute for Physics of Microstructures RAS describes his research interest:

“Scientific interests of our group relate to investigations of ferromagnetic nanostructures such as nanoparticles, hybrid superconductor-ferromagnet structures and multilayer magnetic structures. These kinds of objects attract considerable attention at present time because of fundamental research and possible micro- and nanoelectronic applications (data storage, magnetoresistive memory and so on).”

NT-MDT Co. congratulates both September winners Dr. Boris Tikhonov and Dr. Boris Gribkov with their victory and wishes them success in their further scientific research and educational activity. The Company is happy to provide AFM probes for our clients’ different scientific needs.

And as always by the decision of NT-MDT expert team the authors of TOP-10 images get NT-MDT souvenirs (4 GB flash memory stick with a laser pointer).

So welcome the authors of September TOP-10 scans:

Dr. Tikhonov Boris (Cand.Chem.Sci., Tver State Technical University) with the scan #103 “Moon landscape” (probes used: CSG10)

Dr. Boris A. Gribkov (Research fellow, Institute for Physics of Microstructures RAS) with the scan #92 “Vdovichev`s snowflake” (probes used: NSG01)

Dr. V.A. Smirnov (Teacher in Southern Federal University of Technology) with the scans #96 “Tobacco smoke particles”, #95 “Tobacco smoke particles” (probes used: NSG10)

Dr. Mikhail Shaleev (Researcher in Institute for Physics of Microstructures RAS) with the scans #98 Mould”, #99 “Chains”, #97 “Labyrinth” (probes used: NSG10).

Dr. Marinello Francesco (Researcher in DIMEG - University of Padova) with the scan #100 “Cutting edge” (probes used: NSG01)

Mr. Manuel Balcon (Student in DIMEG - University of Padova) with the scan #102 “Battle of Lepanto” (probes used: NSG01)

Dr. Ilya Morozov (Engineer in Institute of continuous media mechanics UB RAS) with the scan #93 “Galaxy” (probes used: NSG10)

NT-MDT congratulates all the authors of Top10 images and wishes them success and further pleasant collaboration with our company!

NT-MDT invites all SPM users to take part in the next rounds of ProIMAGE Contest 2009. Send the images obtained with NT-MDT probes and vote for the best images every day. The Contest is held till December, 2009. You are welcome to join!
